Nawaz Sharif’s sons’ warrants in Avenfield case suspended

Duo was declared absconders

An accountability court Thursday suspended arrest warrants of Hasan Nawaz and Hussain Nawaz, sons of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Nawaz Sharif, in the Al-Azizia, Flagship, and Avenfield cases.
The decision by Judge Nasir Javed Rana, made after being reserved earlier in the day, extends the suspension until March 14.
The warrants, initially issued seven years ago, declared the brothers as absconders by the court.
In today’s hearing, the legal representation for Hasan and Hussain was led by their lawyer, Qazi Misbah, with National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutors Sardar Muzaffar, Usman Masood, and Sohail Arif also present.
The plea to suspend the warrants was filed in light of the brothers’ anticipated return to Pakistan on March 12.
Misbah informed the court about this development during the hearing of the Toshakhana reference, which involves Nawaz Sharif, PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari, and former Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani. The case alleges a violation of Toshakhana rules in relation to the possession of various vehicles.
Misbah pointed out that Hasan and Hussain were declared absconders, with perpetual warrants against them in this case. He emphasized that both brothers intend to return to Pakistan this month, seeking the court’s suspension of their perpetual warrants.
During the proceedings, NAB prosecutor Arif asserted that, according to the law, the accused should appear in court. He highlighted that the purpose of the arrest warrant is to bring the accused to court, stating that both brothers should be given the opportunity to appear before the accountability court.
