The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz on Sunday criticized the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for launching a “hate campaign” against the government’s officials which the former feared would lead to another May 9 incident.
Addressing a news conference, PML-N leader Malik Ahmad Khan pointed out a repetition of a pattern similar to the one on May 9 in Pakistan following the electoral rigging accusations made by former Rawalpindi commissioner Liaquat Ali Chatha.
Flanked by Azma Bukhari and Attaullah Tarar, Malik accused the PTI of initiating a hate campaign against district returning officers (DROs) and their families, reminiscent of the May 9 events.
He warned of potential damage to Pakistan’s structure if such actions are not halted.
Malik recalled the past incident, asserting that the PTI had conspired against the state and the Pakistan Army.
According to Malik, a campaign from PTI’s accounts was underway, with propaganda aimed at spreading chaos.
He highlighted the uploading of pictures of DROs and their children on social media, labeling it a “scary” campaign.
Malik called on the caretaker prime minister and Punjab chief minister to intervene and condemned the threats directed at government employees.
He argued that this situation mirrored the events of May 9 and urged Chatha to present evidence supporting his rigging allegations.
Malik characterized the situation as a repetition of the May 9 riots and a plan to sow chaos in the country.
Regarding PTI’s allegations about elections, Malik contended that the party had a history of not accepting defeat.
He emphasized that the former Rawalpindi commissioner is not involved in the electoral process, holding no position in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
Malik questioned Chatha’s lack of evidence, stating that he spoke without proper proof.
