CJP asks Chatha to present evidence against rigging allegations

Marriyum demands to put Rawalpindi commissioner name on ECL

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa has dared Rawalpindi Division Commissioner Liaqat Ali Chatha to provide evidence supporting his allegations of the top judge’s involvement in rigging during the February 8 elections.

Earlier in the day, Commissioner Chatha had made startling claims of election rigging, implicating the CJP and other authorities in the process.

In response, Chief Justice Isa dismissed the allegations as baseless and called for concrete evidence to substantiate the commissioner’s accusations.

“You can level allegations all you want, it is your right, but present evidence to back it. Whether good or bad, it will be determined later,” remarked the top judge in an informal interaction with reporters.

Meanwhile PML-N leader Marriyum Aurangzeb has also challenged Rawalpindi Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chatha to substantiate his allegations of electoral malpractice against Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja, and other administrative officers.

Speaking in Lahore, the former information minister questioned Chatha’s lack of evidence during his press conference, emphasizing that any claims should have been presented to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) during the petition hearing.

Aurangzeb stressed the importance of tangible proof for Chatha’s accusations, urging him to produce documents, messages, phone records, or any form of evidence to support his claims of pressure, altered forms, or manipulated ballot papers.

She highlighted the need for responsible actions during this “critical juncture” in the country, warning that a “big loss” would impact everyone adversely.

Expressing her respect for due process, Aurangzeb urged Chatha to take his allegations to the court of law instead of making public accusations.

She emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating that irresponsible actions could lead to significant losses for everyone involved.
