Salman Akram Raja arrested as PTI protest underway

PTI shared the video of Raja’s arrest

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Saturday said Advocate Salman Akram Raja was arrested from Lahore while protesting against the alleged rigging in the general elections 2024.

Salman contested the polls as an independent candidate backed by the party in Lahore’s NA-128 constituency.

“Salman Akram Raja must be immediately released. Such acts against internationally respected lawyers are shameful and damages Pakistan only,” said the party in a post on X which also entailed a video which showed the Punjab police taking the lawyer into custody.

“They are arresting me unlawfully. I am with the public and we will continue to raise my voice for the truth,” he told reporters while being taken away by the police.

The senior leader of PTI Sayed Zulfikar Abbas Bukhari condemned the arrest of Salman and called it a “proof of his victory” in the elections.

“Barrister Salman Akram Raja’s arrest is proof of his victory in the recent elections. The people of Pakistan want their mandate back. No kind of delay will be tolerated,” he wrote in a post in X.

Salman, like other leaders of PTI, was leading the PTI’s protest in Lahore.

The PTI was holding protests across the country including Lahore, Sialkot, Peshawar, Karachi and others against the alleged polls rigging in the general election 2024.

Meanwhile, PTI leader Hammad Azhar has called upon the residents of Punjab and party workers to gather at the planned locations to register their protest.

“People should come and protest as per the instructions of the party founder Imran Khan, whether the police were there or not to stop the protests,” he wrote in a post on X.
