The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has declared plans for nationwide “peaceful” protests to denounce alleged electoral rigging in the February 8 general elections.
Former PTI chairman Barrister Gohar Khan, following a meeting with party founder Imran Khan at Adiala jail, extended invitations to political parties sharing concerns about engineered poll results, including Jamaat-e-Islami, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), and others, to join their protest scheduled for Saturday.
Contrary to earlier reports suggesting a possible alliance with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) at the federal level and with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-Parliamentarians (PTI-P) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the PTI refuted such claims.
This announcement followed speculations of Imran Khan softening his stance against political rivals and considering talks wit/h both PPP and the breakaway faction led by Parvez Khattak.
Imran Khan, currently detained at Adiala jail, is open to dialogue with the PPP, which has declared support for Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s candidate Shehbaz Sharif for the prime ministerial position, reported by media earlier in the day.
However, PTI leader Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif dismissed reports of contacting PPP for government formation, emphasizing that Imran Khan strictly advised against negotiations with PPP and PML-N.
Barrister Gohar, after meeting Khan in Rawalpindi, reiterated the rejection of any coalition with PPP.
He highlighted that Khan firmly dismissed the notion of power-sharing with either PPP or PML-N, dispelling media reports suggesting a proposed political alliance between PTI and PTI-P in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Gohar stated unequivocally, “We will not be joining hands with the PTI-P.”
