PTI announces alliance with MWM, JI for govts formation

With JI in KPK, MWM in Center & Punjab

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced plans to form coalition governments with Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) in the centre and Punjab, Central Information Secretary Raoof Hasan told the media after a meeting with jailed Imran Khan.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, PTI intends to form a coalition with Jamaat-i-Islami for reserved seats, said Hasan emphasizing Imran’s stance that those who won elections should have the authority to establish a government.

The recent elections witnessed PTI-backed candidates participating independently due to the Supreme Court’s decision to strip the party of its election symbol.

Despite running as independents, these elected representatives are required by the Election Act, 2017 to join a political party within three days of the notification.

In response, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif stated that PTI-sponsored or non-PTI-sponsored candidates were welcome to form a government if they can.

“PML-N is ready to sit in the opposition and play a constitutional role,” he said while addressing a news conference.

Sharif addressed concerns about weather and security during the general elections, noting baseless allegations against the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

In the National Assembly, independent candidates secured 101 seats, PML-N 75, and Pakistan Peoples Party won 54 seats.
