In DI Khan, police station comes under terrorist attack ahead of elections

10 police officials martyred

Ahead of the general elections scheduled for February 8, a police station came under terrorist attack in Dera Ismail Khan leading to martyrdom of ten police officials.

According to the police, six officials got injured in a brazen attack on the Chodwan police station in Dera Ismail Khan.

The sources said the assault, carried out by over 30 terrorists attacking from three directions, lasted for over two-and-a-half hours, resulting in a temporary seizure of the police station.

They said the assailants utilized hand grenades after entering the building, exacerbating the casualties among the police officers.

“The entire nation stands with the police and security forces and salutes the martyrs,” said caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar, while strongly condemning the terrorist attack.

He directed officials to ensure the best possible medical treatment for the injured officers.

Interim Information Minister Murtaza Solangi echoed the condemnation of the terrorist attack, expressing grief over the lives lost and paying tribute to the fallen officials who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.

He emphasized that acts of terrorism would not dampen the nation’s spirits and reiterated the unwavering support of the people for the police and security forces in their crucial role in preserving peace and stability.

The law and order situation is deteriorating in some areas of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with the elections are looming large, but the caretaker government is committed to hold the elections on the schedule issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan.

The ballot papers are dispatched across the country and the election campaign by all the political parties are in full swing. However, there are a lot of complaints raised by the candidates of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf who have been decrying absence of level-playing field for them.
