The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf on Sunday said that dozens of its workers were arrested from Karachi as the party endeavored to conduct an election rally in the metropolis ahead of the upcoming polls scheduled for February 8.
The PTI shared the news on its social media networking sites along with the videos of the arrest of their workers.
A series of videos shared by PTI on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) captured the dramatic scenes.
One video displayed police personnel leading a man through a crowd, with many attendees visibly displaying PTI flags.
The PTI, in its post, condemned the arrests, asserting, “Police are arresting peaceful people at Karachi during PTI’s rally. These are visuals of free and fair elections.”
In another video, a significant number of police officers wielding sticks could be seen amidst a chaotic scene, with a PTI banner and numerous flags strewn across the ground.
The PTI accused the police of displaying “shamelessness” and alleged that they had “stormed the PTI rally with shamelessness and vandalized trucks and loudspeakers.
” The party questioned the motivation behind the alleged police actions, asking, “On whose orders are the people being tortured for taking out a peaceful rally?”
According to the PTI’s General Secretary Omar Ayub, police had arrested PTI Sindh General Secretary Ali Pal.
He condemned the Karachi police’s action and said it was the constitutional right of every citizen to hold a peaceful rally during the election campaign.
