Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Barrister Gohar Khan Sunday unveiled the party’s election manifesto amidst ongoing campaigns across the country.
Gohar revealed the PTI’s manifesto, titled ‘Shandaar Pakistan, Shandaar Mustaqbil aur Kharaab Maazi sey chutkara’ (Magnificent Pakistan, Magnificent Future, and Liberation from a Troubled Past) at a news conference here.
Speaking to the media, Gohar said those who had worked out the manifesto could not attend the unveiling ceremony for the looming threat of their arrest.
Divulging the key points of the manifesto, the PTI leader pledged the establishment of a truth and reconciliation commission to address injustices faced by the common man.
Emphasizing the party’s stance on the rule of law, Gohar stated the importance of equality before the law, asserting, “We cannot have two laws, one for the rich and one for the poor.”
Drawing on his legal background, he underlined the fundamental nature of the rule of law for any nation.
The manifesto also envisions modeling the country after the ‘Riyasat-i-Madina’ (State of Madina).
Gohar highlighted the need to reform lengthy and complicated criminal and civil laws, specifically mentioning the overhaul of the Code of Criminal Procedure to ensure the protection of citizens, particularly the less privileged.
Constitutional reforms were also outlined, with plans to have the prime minister directly elected by the people. Gohar detailed intentions to reduce the National Assembly’s tenure to four years, bring the Senate’s tenure to five years, and introduce direct elections for 50 percent of Senators.
Addressing economic concerns, Gohar promised tax scheme reforms and an expanded tax bracket. Farmers were assured of subsidies to support their livelihoods. Additionally, the party proposed a large-scale implementation of solar energy projects and the introduction of a universal health card.
Gohar underscored PTI’s commitment to educational reforms, advocating for a unified education system nationwide.
