5 police officials martyred in Bajaur blast

27 injured in the blast

Tragedy struck in the Mamund tehsil of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bajaur district on Monday as five police officials were martyred and 27 individuals sustained injuries in a blast that took place near a police van.

According to the district police, the van carrying multiple policemen for anti-polio campaign duties became target of an improvised explosive device (IED).

As per reports, the outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack.

Condemnations poured in following the incident, with caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar expressing strong condemnation and affirming the commitment to continue the anti-polio campaign unabated until the complete eradication of the virus.

Caretaker KP Chief Minister Justice (retd) Arshad Hussain Shah also condemned the blast, expressing grief over the loss of police officials’ lives.

He emphasized the resilience of the police force and pledged unwavering support to the bereaved families.

In a separate incident, a Counter Terrorism Department official was martyred in a firing incident within Peshawar’s judicial complex. Three individuals, including a police officer and two from the targeted side, sustained injuries.

The suspect, who disguised himself as a lawyer, was apprehended, and weapons used in the incident were recovered. The motive behind the shooting was cited as personal enmity.
