PTI’s use of AI for keeping Imran’s narrative alive

Voice clone of Imran Khan used to rejuvenate workers

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has garnered immense appreciation following optimum use of digital technology including Artificial Intelligence (AI) for holding a virtual gathering.

Millions of PTI’s supporters listened to the PTI virtual gathering on different social media networking sites that faced disruption for whole day.

Another feature that becomes a talk of the town was the use of artificial intelligence to enable former Prime Minister Imran Khan to address the nation from his prison cell.

Khan’s virtual presence was felt in a four-minute impassioned speech during a virtual PTI rally on Sunday.

Utilizing advanced AI technology from ElevenLabs, the PTI recreated Khan’s voice by processing a shorthand script sent through his lawyers.

The tool, known for its ability to generate a convincing “voice clone” from existing speech samples, brought the 71-year-old leader’s rhetorical prowess to life. Expressing gratitude for the historic attempt, the AI-generated voice reassured supporters of Khan’s unwavering determination for real freedom.

The virtual rally, an innovative response to the suppression of public gatherings, showcased the PTI’s adaptability in the face of challenges.

Imran Khan’s plea for large-scale participation in the upcoming general elections was underscored by the party’s claim that public rallies were being prohibited, and party members were facing intimidation and harassment.

The AI-generated audio, strategically placed at the end of a five-hour live stream on Facebook, X, and YouTube, featured historic footage and images of Khan, providing a seamless blend with genuine video clips. A caption periodically reminded viewers that it was the “AI voice of Imran Khan based on his notes.”

While the PTI’s initiative to harness social media for political communication is not new, the virtual rally marked a significant departure from traditional methods, especially as the party faced social media restrictions for seven hours, a move reminiscent of past internet censorship targeting PTI activities.

PTI’s social media chief, Jibran Ilyas, emphasized the necessity of adapting to Khan’s absence from physical political rallies, stating, “It was to get over the suppression.” Despite skepticism from some quarters, the virtual rally garnered immense attention, reaching over 4.5 million viewers on Facebook, X, and YouTube.
