In response to Omicron fears that have spread to nearly 100 countries, Pakistan’s National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) has lowered the age limit for a COVID-19 booster injection.
The apex COVID-19 board addressed the epidemic curve chart data, national immunization plan, and disease prevalence across the country during its morning session on Monday.
The NCOC said in a statement, “It has been decided in the session that the individuals with 30 years plus age are eligible to get a booster dose of their own choice from 1st January 2022.” Furthermore, after the meeting, NCOC reviewed the progress of provinces to evaluate if the required targets are being met.
The forum had previously approved booster dose administration for three groups:
- Healthcare personnel.
- Those over 50.
- People who are immunocompromised.
The NCOC agreed to take severe steps regarding the mandatory vaccination program during its Monday meeting.
The group was informed that 713,582 persons had been vaccinated in the previous 24 hours. However, a total of 141,509,339 people have been vaccinated, accounting for 58 percent of the country’s immunized population.
The Omicron form has been recorded in 95 countries, with 58000 confirmed cases to date, with Europe being the epicenter, along with the United Kingdom and Denmark having the most instances.
In India, 149 confirmed cases of Omicron have been reported.
NCOC recommended that everyone gets completely vaccinated against the new coronavirus type.
