President Alvi breaks stereotypes by destigmatizing family planning

Pakistanis have reacted positively to President Arif Alvi’s effort on family planning. Taking to Twitter, the President released an ad emphasizing the necessity of breaking down preconceptions when discussing certain societal conventions, such as reproduction and family planning.

President Dr. Arif Alvi said, “National health is strongly related to the health of the mother and the baby. To prioritize such issues is imperative. Practice family planning for prosperity. Keep in mind how many children you can have. Make good health a reality. This topic shouldn’t be ignored. We need to discuss it and spread the message.”

Many people flocked to Twitter shortly after the President posted the video, praising him for igniting an important debate.

One user on Twitter said, “Now that’s a President I can support.”

While another added, “Sexual education is mandatory to curb the parochial mindset. It’s important to educate both young and old about the family planning to foster a safe and healthy environment.”

One user said, “Govt must take the lead if we are to challenge the taboos against contraceptives, family planning, and sexual and reproductive health in general.”

Another user said, “Family planning & destigmatizing sexual health needs to be a massive priority for Pakistan.”

One of the users said, “This is the need of the hour where people need to be able to discuss societal issues that impact all of us.”

One user said, “For the first time in my life, I have seen someone in govt. addressing this issue!”

Talking about societal issues is the need of the hour especially in the 21st Century because as the world is progressing, more people should be able to talk about issues like Family opening in a more open way. If people start to accept such issues and start to speak up about them, Pakistan can prosper in a much greater capacity. 

President Arif Alvi has always stressed societal issues like family planning. He also requested the media along with the ulema to aid in promoting family planning. The president said that family planning is essential for maternal health and for the child.
