Islamabad Court granted bail to Therapy Works CEO Tahir Zahoor along with five other staff members in the Noor Mukadam murder case on Monday (23 August).
Judge Atta Rabbani ordered the suspects to provide Rs500,000 guarantee bonds to secure the bail. He reserved his decision after hearing arguments on the bail applications of the organization’s owner and workers.
Therapy works is a psychiatric rehabilitation center and Zahir Jaffer, the prime suspect of the Noor Mukadam case, reportedly worked as a therapist in Therapy works.
Background
The owner and five workers of Therapy Works, where lead suspect Zahir Jaffer allegedly worked as a therapist, were arrested on August 14 by Islamabad police. They were arrested on suspicion of hiding evidence.
Tahir Zahoor, Chief Executive Officer of Therapy Works, and five other accused in the case appeared before Additional Sessions Judge Ata Rabbani on Monday.
Tahir Zahoor is merely accused of concealing evidence, although he was not present at the scene of the crime, according to his lawyer, Zafarullah. He stated that his client is 73 years old and has diabetes, as well as heart and kidney issues. He said that his client was not named in the FIR, however, he has still been arrested. He added that the institution of Therapy Works is his client’s profession and his client along with the institution aims at treating people.
The government counsel said that the employees of Therapy Works entered the house of Zahir Jaffer the night of Noor Mukadam’s murder by breaking the door. Additionally, the council added that Zahir Jaffer, the prime suspect of the case, after murdering Noor Mukadam informed his parents. The parents further contacted the rehab center and asked them to go to their son’s house to check on him.
Six persons were detained, including the owner and employees of a psychiatric rehabilitation institution, for their claimed role in assisting Zahir Jaffer.
Case
Noor Mukadam, daughter of an ex-ambassador was put to death on 20th July by her friend, Zahir Jaffer.
Abdul Sattar, the investigative officer, previously stated that the tape retrieved from Zahir’s apartment showed that when Noor leaped from the balcony and attempted to go outside, the gatekeeper closed the gate.
According to Abdul Sattar, the body was transported to the hospital at about 12:10 a.m. on the day of the event, but the post-mortem was performed the next morning at 9 a.m. According to the postmortem report, the murder occurred at approximately 7 p.m. on July 20.
On the complaint of the victim’s father, a first information report (FIR) was filed against Jaffer, who was apprehended at the site, under Section 302 (premeditated murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
