General Qamar Javed Bajwa, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), paid a visit to the Anti-Narcotics Force Headquarters on Tuesday. He was received by Director-General (DG) ANF Major General Muhammad Arif Malik. During his visit, he was briefed on the Anti-Narcotics Force’s contributions to the fight against drug trafficking in Pakistan.
The army chief told officers and employees, that drug dealers and those involved in their manufacturing are a threat to national security, according to a statement released by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). Drug money is being used to promote terrorism, according to the Chief of Army Staff, thus it’s critical that drug dealers are dealt with harshly.
Earlier this month, ANF successfully prevented an effort to send many sleeping pills to Saudi Arabia. Two containers were intercepted by the Regional directorate on July 16 at the Pakistan International Container Terminal in Karachi, bearing the following drugs:
- 5,460 Alparazolam tablets (weighing 1.5kg).
- 56,500 Xanax tablets (weighing 134kg).
- 264,000 Valium Diazepam tablets (weighing 78kg).
- 83,760 Pinix (Alparozlam) tablets (weighing 26.5kg).
Havi Express Courier Company Pvt Ltd, Karachi, had a parcel intercepted by the Regional Directorate Karachi it had:
- 1.5kg of heroin.
Two Shikarpur locals were apprehended as suspects when a crew from the ANF Hyderabad Police Station stopped a car near Giddu Chowk in Hyderabad and found:
- 33 kg of hashish.
