Commissioner spills beans on electoral rigging in Rawalpindi

Resignation tendered by Commissioner Rawalpindi

Commissioner of Rawalpindi Division Liaquat Ali Chatta resigned from his position on Saturday, spilling the beans on massive electoral irregularities in the city.

During a press conference at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Chatta admitted to injustices against the people of Rawalpindi Division, acknowledging the occurrence of “rigging” and taking responsibility for it.

“We converted the losers into winners with a 50,000-vote margin,” and voluntarily surrendered to the police.

He expressed regret to the returning officers in his division, highlighting that his subordinates were distressed by their directives.

Chatta disclosed that, even today, election staffers were allegedly affixing fake stamps on ballot papers.

He expressed remorse for the impact on the country and suggested his execution in Rawalpindi’s Kachehri Chowk.

The commissioner stated that he faced pressure from social media and overseas Pakistanis, revealing that he attempted suicide earlier in the day.

He pointed fingers at those responsible for the electoral wrongdoing and the manipulation of results, emphasizing that 13 National Assembly candidates, originally losing, were declared winners with margins of up to 70,000 votes.

Contrary to Chatta’s claims, the Punjab government dismissed allegations of rigging. Caretaker Information Minister Amir Mir told the media that Chatta’s remarks were an attempt to damage the election’s credibility.

Mir questioned the timing of Chatta’s revelation, just weeks before his retirement on March 13, suggesting it may be a political stunt to launch a new career.
