PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari has thrown down the gauntlet to the senior leadership of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), challenging them to contest elections based on the 15-month performance of the government run by the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM).
In a news conference, Bilawal confidently expressed his readiness to participate in the upcoming elections on the basis of his own performance as the foreign minister.
In a direct address to PML-N leaders including Shehbaz Sharif, Ishaq Dar, Khurram Dastgir, Saad Rafique, Ayaz Sadiq, and Ahsan Iqbal, Bilawal questioned whether they were prepared to contest based on their respective performances over the last 15-16 months or if they were attempting to evade accountability.
Taking a swipe at PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif, Bilawal advised him to concentrate on Lahore for the upcoming general elections, urging him to address the city’s issues. Nawaz Sharif’s recent visit to Quetta in an attempt to form strategic alliances in all provinces ahead of the Feb 8 polls was highlighted by Bilawal.
When questioned about the PML-N’s outreach during a press conference in Mithi, Bilawal acknowledged the right of every political party to conduct politics in different provinces. However, he suggested that Nawaz Sharif should focus on addressing issues in Lahore for better electoral outcomes.
Bilawal emphasized that the PPP welcomed political parties visiting different provinces but advised the PML-N to carry out its politics independently without relying on other institutions. He stressed the importance of the PML-N building confidence in its own party and politics rather than seeking external support.
