A warning shot of Australia to competitors with resounding 309-runs victory

Maxwell sets fastest century record in ODI World Cup

Australia has officially announced its come-back by crushing Netherlands with a resounding 309-run victory in the 24th match of the ICC World Cup 2023 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi, on Wednesday.

Batting first, Australia put on a formidable total of 399 on the score board. Fiery start by opener batsman Warner put the Netherlands on the back foot right from the beginning.

David Warner set the stage on fire with his explosive batting, smashing a scintillating 104 runs. Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell contributed equally in the win with his fastest century ever recorded in the World Cup.

Maxwell’s whirlwind knock of 106 runs off just 44 balls left the Dutch bowlers gasping for breath. His innings included a staggering display of power hitting, with nine fours and eight sixes, dismantling the Dutch attack with finesse and brutality.

The Dutch bowlers found themselves on the receiving end of an onslaught, with Maxwell leading the charge. Aryan Dutt, in particular, bore the brunt of Warner’s assault, conceding four consecutive boundaries.

Despite brief periods of resistance, the Netherlands struggled to contain the Australian batsmen. Maxwell’s onslaught, especially against bowler de Leede, who conceded a record-breaking 115 runs in his 10 overs, ensured Australia amassed 131 runs in the final 10 overs.

Chasing a daunting target of 400 runs, the Netherlands faltered early, losing both openers within the initial six overs. Australian spinner Adam Zampa capitalized on the momentum, tearing through the Dutch lower order and finishing with impressive figures of 3 wickets for 8 runs. The Dutch batsmen found it difficult to combat Australia’s relentless bowling attack, ultimately collapsing for a mere 90 runs in 21 overs.

Australia’s emphatic victory not only solidified their position in the tournament but also handed Netherlands the most significant defeat in World Cup history.
