India wins, but Kohli’s bid to equal Sachin’s record comes up short at 95

Kohli already scored 48 centuries in ODI cricket

Indian cricket maestro Virat Kohli showcased his brilliance on the field, leading India to a triumphant victory over New Zealand despite falling just short of a century which he needs to level ODI record of the highest centuries set by another cricketing great Sachin Tandulkar.

Sachin has set the record by scoring 49 centuries in the ICC ODI games and Kohli who scored 48 is just inches away to break the record with many years away from the retirement.

In today’s match, Kohli’s matured knock of 95 proved instrumental as India successfully chased down New Zealand’s total of 273 with four wickets in hand. This remarkable win not only solidifies India’s unbeaten streak in the tournament but also highlights Kohli’s exceptional form, contributing significantly to the team’s success.

New Zealand, batting first, posted a challenging total of 273, largely propelled by Daryl Mitchell’s rapid century. Mitchell’s explosive innings, supported by Rachin Ravindra’s resilient 75, had put New Zealand in a commanding position at 205-3 in the 37th over. However, Indian bowlers, led by Mohammed Shami’s impressive figures of 5-54, applied the brakes on New Zealand’s scoring, limiting them to a manageable total.

India, in response, got off to a rollicking start, with skipper Rohit Sharma contributing 46 runs. However, it was Kohli’s exceptional innings, his fourth 50-plus score in five matches, that anchored India’s chase. Despite the pressure and the absence of star all-rounder Hardik Pandya, Kohli’s resilience, combined with contributions from the rest of the team, led India to the victory target with two overs to spare.

Kohli’s innings, although falling short of a century, was lauded for its maturity and composure, underlining his status as one of the world’s premier batsmen. India’s win against New Zealand maintains their unbeaten run in the tournament and solidifies their position at the top of the table.

This victory not only showcases India’s strength and determination but also highlights Kohli’s remarkable form, setting the stage for more thrilling encounters in the upcoming matches of the World Cup.
