Nawaz Sharif’s fresh medical report to LHC amid his homecoming plans

Nawaz Sharif to return country on Oct 21

A medical report on the health of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Nawaz Sharif has been submitted to the Lahore High Court (LHC) suggesting that the former Prime Minister was experiencing “residual anginal symptoms,” which required regular follow-up investigations both in London and Pakistan.
Angina, characterized by chest pain or discomfort, is a common symptom of coronary heart disease.
The submitted medical report was prepared by Professor Carlo Di Mario, a consultant cardiologist at the Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals, part of Guy’s and St Thomas’ National Health Service Foundation Trust in London.
According to Di Mario, Nawaz Sharif, who had previously undergone coronary artery bypass grafting, multiple angioplasties, and ablations, experienced worsening anginal symptoms during his stay in London.
In November 2022, Nawaz underwent another angioplasty targeting an occluded left circumflex artery.
The procedure involved rotational atherectomy, intravascular lithotripsy, and the deployment of multiple stents under Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS) guidance.
Despite these interventions, Nawaz Sharif still faces residual anginal symptoms due to diffuse distal coronary disease, compounded by his diabetes and other comorbidities.
Consequently, he requires frequent follow-up investigations, both in London and Pakistan, as per the medical report submitted to the Lahore High Court.
Nawaz Sharif went to London in 2019 during his seven-year jail term, citing medical reasons.
The Lahore High Court had granted him permission to travel abroad for an initial period of four weeks, extendable based on medical reports.
His departure was sanctioned with the condition that his brother, Shehbaz Sharif, would provide periodic medical reports duly notarized by the embassy to the court.
However, Nawaz Sharif did not return as scheduled and was subsequently declared a proclaimed offender in various corruption cases.
His brother, Shehbaz Sharif, recently announced that Nawaz is planning to return to Pakistan on October 21.
According to party sources, Nawaz intends to secure protective bail and then surrender to the courts after attending a reception in his honor.
