Govt appoints Lt-Gen Munir Afsar NADRA chairman

Federal Cabinet accorded approval for the appointment

The Federal Cabinet on Monday accorded approval for the appointment of Lieutenant General Munir Afsar as the new chairman of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA).
The decision to this effect was announced by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in a post on X formerly Twitter.
The decision follows the cabinet’s careful consideration of three candidates recommended by the Ministry of Interior.
The Ministry of Interior promptly issued a notification, formalizing the appointment with immediate effect.
Lieutenant General Munir Afsar is one of the 12 major generals promoted to the rank of lieutenant general in October 2022.
He succeeds Asad Rehman Gilani, who assumed office in June after the resignation of Tariq Malik.
The appointment of Gen Afsar as the chairman of NADRA is expected to have a significant impact on the organization, which plays a vital role in managing the country’s national database and registration system.
The move is seen as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen key institutions and ensure effective governance.
