Bangladesh beats India in Asia Cup super four’s final clash

Bangladesh skipper Shakib played key role in victory

In a thrilling encounter, Bangladesh emerged victorious against India by a narrow margin of six runs in the final Super Four clash of the Asia Cup.
Despite India’s valiant effort, Bangladesh managed to defend their total of 265 and end their campaign on a high note before the upcoming ODI World Cup.
Bangladesh’s skipper, Shakib Al Hasan, played a pivotal role in their victory, contributing 80 runs with the bat and inspiring the bowling attack.
His partnership with Towhid Hridoy, who scored 54 runs, helped Bangladesh recover from a challenging position at 59-4.
With contributions from the lower order, Bangladesh posted a competitive total of 265-8 in their allotted 50 overs.
India, already assured of a place in the final against Sri Lanka, opted to rest key players such as Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah in this inconsequential clash.
Despite opener Shubman Gill’s heroic century (121 runs), India could not chase down the target of 266. Mustafizur Rahman claimed three crucial wickets, while debutant Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Mahedi Hasan took two each as India was bowled out for 259.
Bangladesh’s bowlers kept the pressure on India throughout the chase, with Taskina and other bowlers making key breakthroughs. While Gill’s century was the standout performance for India, Bangladesh’s bowlers consistently chipped away at the wickets to maintain their advantage.
With this victory, Bangladesh concluded their Asia Cup campaign with two wins, including one in the group stage against Afghanistan, providing them with momentum as they look ahead to the upcoming ODI World Cup. Meanwhile, India’s focus will now shift to the much-anticipated final showdown against Sri Lanka in Colombo.
