Federal cabinet approves transparent auction of PM’s gifts for charity

295 decisions taken in 53 sessions

The federal cabinet on Wednesday gave its seal of approval for the auction of valuable gifts received by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif over the last 15 months.
The decision, aimed at ensuring transparency and accountability, was made during the farewell meeting of the cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Sharif himself.
The prime minister expressed his earnest wish that the proceeds generated from the auction should be directed towards organizations dedicated to the welfare of orphans and destitute children in Pakistan.
A notable aspect of this decision is the inclusion of the public in the auction process. This move underlines the government’s commitment to openness and inclusivity, allowing the citizens to actively participate and contribute to this noble cause.
The cabinet meeting also marked a moment of reflection on the accomplishments of the federal cabinet over the past 15 months.
Secretary Cabinet presented a comprehensive report detailing the performance of the cabinet from April 20, 2022, to August 8, 2023. Astonishingly, out of the 1295 decisions taken in 53 sessions during this period, around 99% have been successfully implemented, showcasing the efficiency and dedication of the cabinet members.
Prime Minister Sharif extended his gratitude to the cabinet members for their tireless efforts in advancing the country’s development agenda. The meeting also observed a somber moment by offering Fateha for the victims of the Hazara Express accident near Nawabshah.
Several key policy decisions were also endorsed during the meeting. The cabinet approved the draft of the National Music Policy, designed to safeguard Pakistan’s musical heritage, promote contemporary music, and prevent plagiarism of musicians’ works through legal frameworks and modern technological resources.
Furthermore, appointments to significant positions were greenlit by the cabinet, including technical members of the National Tariff Commission, Chairman of the Board of Directors of State Life Insurance, and Deputy State Bank Governor.
The cabinet also delved into matters of public interest such as the appointment of the Managing Director/CEO of Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), the establishment of the SIFC Secretariat, and the nationwide solarization project.
