Outgoing FM hosts dinner for diplomatic corps in Capital

Collective efforts required to deal with climate change

Outgoing Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Tuesday held a dinner reception for the ambassadors and diplomatic corps here in the Federal Capital to highlight contours of the foreign policy pursued by the coalition government during its 15-months tenure.
Addressing the gathering, he said during the last 15 months of the incumbent government, Pakistan’s boosted its engagement with the world, but still there was a room for unlocking the true potential of its relationship.
He commended Pakistan’s diplomats and officers for their diligent efforts in contributing to the functioning of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, considering it an honor to serve as the Foreign Minister.


During his speech, Bilawal said he opted professional approach to run the ministry and freed it from domestic politics.
Recognizing the evolving international landscape, the Foreign Minister pointed out that modern challenges transcend borders. As an example, he cited the devastating floods in Pakistan caused by climate change, highlighting the urgent need for collaborative efforts to combat this global issue.
Bilawal underscored that addressing climate change required concerted actions rather than isolated efforts.
He also mentioned Pakistan’s pivotal role at the recent COP27, emphasizing that the positive outcomes of the meeting were made possible through the support of other participating nations.
Expressing gratitude, the Foreign Minister extended appreciation to the friendly countries that assisted Pakistan in reaching an agreement with the International Monetary Fund.
