Head-on collision of buses on Mehran Highway claims 7 lives

42 got injured in 2 passenger coaches

A tragic head-on collision between two passenger coaches on the Mehran Highway near Nawabshah resulted in the loss of seven lives and left 42 individuals injured, as confirmed by officials.

The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) for Benazirabad, Mohammad Younis Chandio, provided details of the incident, stating that the accident occurred on Daur Bandhi Road shortly after 4 am on Sunday. The collision involved two passenger buses traveling from Karachi and Peshawar, respectively.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the collision was a result of the vehicles’ high speed, leading to the tragic incident. The injured individuals were immediately transported to the People’s University of Medical and Health Sciences for medical treatment.

Following the accident, the Mehran Highway was temporarily closed for traffic, with vehicles being redirected to the National Highway.

This unfortunate incident comes after a recent bus accident earlier this month, where 13 people, including five women, lost their lives, and 31 others sustained injuries when a bus overturned near Kallar Kahar on the Islamabad-Lahore Motorway. Police had attributed the cause to a suspected brake failure, leading to the driver losing control of the vehicle.

Similarly, in April, nine people were killed in a head-on collision between a truck and a mini-van near the Keenjhar Lake in Thatta district, Sindh. Another incident in February claimed the lives of 13 people and left over 20 injured when a speeding jeep collided with two other vehicles on the Multan-Sukkur Motorway (M-5).

Authorities are reminding drivers to exercise caution, adhere to speed limits, and ensure the proper maintenance of vehicles to prevent such tragic accidents in the future.
