Tragic bus accident on Islamabad-Lahore Motorway claims 10 lives, injures 25

Death toll may rise

A devastating bus accident occurred on the Islamabad-Lahore motorway near Kallar Kahar in Punjab on Saturday, resulting in the loss of at least 10 lives and leaving 25 individuals injured, officials from the rescue and police departments have said.
They expressed concern that the numbers might rise further as the situation unfolds.
According a statement issued by the National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP), preliminary reports suggest that the accident was caused by brake failure in a bus traveling from Islamabad to Lahore, resulting in the tragic incident at Kallar Kahar.
Efforts are underway to transfer the injured to a nearby hospital for necessary medical treatment, the statement added.
The NHMP has deployed personnel to the accident site who were actively engaged in rescue operations, under the supervision of DIG (Motorway) Mohammad Yusuf Malik and Commander Nafri, the sector commander.
This tragic incident follows a similar accident in February, where a bus carrying a wedding party veered off the road near Kallar Kahar, resulting in the deaths of 14 individuals, including women and children. Sixty-four others were injured in that incident when the bus overturned after hitting two cars and a truck on the opposite track. Initial investigations indicated that a tire burst may have caused the bus to lose control.
Authorities are working diligently to manage the current situation and investigate the cause of the accident, emphasizing the importance of road safety and urging drivers to adhere to traffic regulations to prevent such tragic incidents in the future.
