Lawmakers repose full confidence in PM Shehbaz Sharif

PM receives 180 votes from NA

Majority lawmakers have reposed full confidence in leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif who secured 180 votes from the National Assembly wherein Minister for Foreign Affairs Bilawal Bhutto Zardari tabled a resolution for the trust vote.
Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf announced the result after Thursday’s vote saying the prime minister had received 180 votes from the National Assembly which reposed confidence in his leadership.
“One hundred and eighty members (180) members rose in favor of resolution and the resolution is passed. Consequently, Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has obtained the vote of confidence from the National Assembly and commands the confidence of the majority of the members of the National Assembly as the prime minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan,” he announced.
The resolution moved by Minister for Foreign Affairs Bilawal Bhutto Zardari stated “The National Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan reposes its full confidence in the leadership of Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif as the Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan”.
A total of 180 members voted in favor of resolution and the Speaker directed the National Assembly Secretariat to place the names of all members on its website which voted in favor of the resolution. The resolution appeared as supplementary agenda item on `Orders of the Day’.
While tabling the resolution, Minister for Foreign Affairs Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said the government had decided to show the whole world that the parliament was standing with the constitution.
Parliament is standing with the supremacy of the constitution, he added.
He said that the parliament was standing with the majority decision of the apex court which was given by 4/3.
As the house reposed confidence in the prime minister, Shehbaz Sharif said he was ready to face removal from his office for respecting the Parliament’s decision, but would not undermine trust.
“Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was unjustly martyred, Nawaz Sharif was disqualified, Yusuf Raza Gilani was disqualified. Today the Parliament has given me the vote of confidence. By God, if they oust me in response to this vote of confidence, I am ready to go back thousands of time but will not let them down,” the prime minister said, adding it was not possible that the court granted a stay on a law passed by the Parliament even before its finalization.
“The framing and amendment of the Constitution is the Parliament’s right. The court has no power to rewrite the Constitution… If the Parliament raises its voice… the threat of contempt is given,” he remarked.
