Police says Mufti Shakoor sustained head injury

Religious Affairs Minister Mufti Abdul Shakoor died in a road accident in Islamabad on Saturday.
The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) police confirmed demise of Mufti Shakoor on its twitter handle.
He was shifted to Poly Clinic Hospital Islamabad where a large number of his party workers and ministers reached as soon as the information of his demise circulated on mainstream and social media.
Talking to the media outside the Poly Clinic Hospital, Inspector General of Police Islamabad Dr Akbar Nasir Khan said the minister was driving along when another vehicle collided with his car.
“Apparently, he got died due to head injury,” he said, adding the minister was travelling from Mariott towards the Secretariat Chowk.
He said five people were travelling in other vehicle which hit the minister’s car. All those who were in the car had been arrested and investigation was underway, he added.
President Dr Arif Alvi expressed his regret over the death of the federal minister and paid tribute to the deceased’s services for interfaith harmony.


In his condolence statement, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Shakoor was a “practical scholar, an ideological political activist, and a decent human being”.
PM Shehbaz said the deceased federal minister was among Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl’s ideological leaders.
