PDM leaders’ huddle in Lahore today

Focus will be political, economic & constitutional crisis

The leaders of coalition in the government will have a huddle in Lahore today to devise a strategy to deal with the looming constitutional crisis along with the prevailing economic and political crises.
According to state media, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will preside over the important meeting from Lahore via video link for discussing the overall political situation in the country, while Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar will brief the participants on legal issues especially in the wake of ongoing case being heard by the apex court regarding delay in polls.
This huddle comes at a time when the friction between the government and judiciary is growing with the passage of each day. The government is demanding full court bench for hearing the polls’ delay case in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while the apex court bench, which now relegated to three-member, has rejected the demand saying it would further waste time.
Earlier, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Supremo Nawaz Sharif spoke to media and masses through video link from London and lashed out the top court judges especially former Chief Justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar and the incumbent CJP Bandial for constitution of “Selective” benches for suo motu cases.
However, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the main opposition party, fearing retelecast of 1997 when an unruly mob of several thousand stormed the Supreme Court, forcing the then Chief Justice of Pakistan to adjourn a contempt of court case against the then Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
PTI Chairman Imran Khan took to twitter on Friday and wrote that the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz was threatening the top judge again in a way that it attack the court in 1997.
“As PMLN did in 1997 by storming SC to attack CJ Sajjad Ali Shah hearing a contempt petition against Nawaz Sharif, today PMLN is again threatening SC & CJP because they are petrified of elections,” he tweeted.
