An International Cricket Council (ICC) delegation visited Pakistan to assess venues and facilities for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and also had a meeting with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi on Wednesday.
Pakistan secured the hosting rights for the tournament in December, despite initial uncertainties stemming from India’s insistence on Pakistan hosting the majority of matches during September’s Asia Cup in Sri Lanka.
This event marks a significant milestone for Pakistan, as it will be the first major global cricket tournament hosted by the country since 1996, when it co-hosted the Men’s Cricket World Cup with India and Sri Lanka.
In a press release issued by the PCB, discussions during the meeting focused on preparations for the upcoming tournament, with emphasis placed on ensuring its smooth and successful execution.
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi expressed his enthusiasm for the event, stating it as a welcomed development for both the board and cricket enthusiasts across the nation. He assured that the PCB is committed to providing top-notch facilities befitting the historic nature of the tournament.
Naqvi further announced plans to upgrade three major venues in the country well in advance of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, underscoring the board’s dedication to making the tournament a memorable and successful one.
The ICC delegation, led by Head of Events Chris Tetley, included Senior Manager of Event Operations Sarah Edgar and Event Operations Manager Aun Zaidi. Also in attendance were PCB’s Chief Operating Officer Salman Naseer, Director of International Cricket Usman Wahla, and other PCB officials.
