Ramadan moon sighted today in Pakistan

Fasting starting tomorrow

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee declared the sighting of the Ramadan moon in Pakistan, signaling the commencement of the holy month.

The decision was reached following a meeting in Peshawar, presided over by the committee’s chairman, Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, where representatives from diverse schools of thought convened to determine the start of the ninth Islamic month.

The official confirmation came after reports of the Ramadan moon being sighted in Lahore and Peshawar, underscoring the unity in the nationwide observance of this sacred occasion. The moon sighting committee had actively sought assistance from the public, emphasizing the significance of a unified commencement of Ramadan across the country.

While Ramadan had already commenced in various parts of the world, including the Middle East and Europe, astronomical parameters hinted at high chances of the moon being sighted in Pakistan as well. Simultaneously, zonal and district Ruet-e-Hilal committees convened meetings at their respective locations on Shaban 29 after Asr prayers to collectively ascertain the beginning of the holy month in the Hijri year 1445.

The upcoming month holds immense spiritual significance, with millions of Pakistanis and billions of Muslims globally preparing to observe fasting from dawn till sunset. The fasting duration will span between 12 to 17 hours, contingent on geographical locations worldwide.

Traditionally, Ramadan in Pakistan is marked by a surge in charitable activities and public food drives. Roadside stalls, a common sight during this period, exemplify the spirit of giving as people return home in the evening. The holy month is anticipated to be observed with religious fervor, fostering a sense of unity and compassion within the community.
