In anticipation of the imminent rainfall in the bustling metropolis, the Sindh government took proactive measures on Thursday by declaring a rain emergency in the province.
This strategic move was accompanied by the announcement of a half-day for offices in Karachi on Friday, as confirmed by Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab Siddiqui in a statement shared on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.
Mayor Siddiqui highlighted the decision to implement a half-day as an “abundant precaution” aimed at ensuring the safety and convenience of the public.
In his message, he urged citizens to refrain from unnecessary travel to minimize any potential disruptions caused by the anticipated weather conditions.
“Though preparations have been made, as a matter of abundant precaution, it has been decided in a meeting presided by CM that tomorrow will be a half day for offices in Karachi division from 2 pm. Citizens are requested to also avoid unnecessary movement to avoid any inconvenience,” Mayor Siddiqui emphasized.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) had earlier issued a forecast predicting rain, accompanied by windstorms, with a likelihood of isolated hailstorms in Sindh spanning from February 29 to March 2.
In response to these weather predictions, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah took decisive action by declaring a rain emergency in the province.
As the region braces for the expected rainfall, local bodies, administrations, and hospitals have been placed on high alert to respond promptly to any emergent situations.
Citizens are advised to stay informed about the weather updates, adhere to safety guidelines, and cooperate with the authorities to ensure a smooth response to any weather-related incidents.
