Landslide victory with overwhelming majority in the House

The people of Sindh will be ruled by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) for the next five years after its leader Murad Ali Shah becomes the chief executive of the province for third time in a row.

Shah grabbed overwhelming majority in the Sindh Assembly whose members expressed full confidence in his leadership for ruling a province with a population of 44.89 million people.

He defeated Mutahida Qaumi Movement (MQM-Pakistan), Ali Khurshidi by securing an impressive 112 votes in the Assembly’s election against his opponent who managed only 36 votes.

Murad Ali Shah has previously served two terms as Sindh’s chief minister from 2016 to 2018 and then from 2018 to 2023.

Newly-elected Sindh Assembly Speaker Syed Awais Qadir Shah presided over the proceedings.

Following Murad’s landslide victory, MQM-P MPA Abdul Waseem graciously extended congratulations to the newly-elected Chief Minister. He expressed optimism about the incoming administration’s ability to address the issues faced by the people, emphasizing the importance of respecting the elected members for the collective betterment of the region.

PPP MPA Sardar Shah also lauded Murad’s accomplishment, highlighting the honor of serving as Chief Minister for the third time, a position previously held by his father.

In his victory speech to the House, Murad Ali Shah pledged a determined effort to combat the surging street crime in the province, particularly in Karachi.

Emphasizing the urgency of the situation, he announced plans to reassess operations in riverine areas as an immediate measure.

Addressing the concerning issue of drug abuse, CM Murad assured that the government would prioritize efforts to address this challenge.

CM Murad disclosed that his formal oath-taking ceremony is scheduled for tomorrow evening, marking the official commencement of his new term.

Highlighting a crucial mission for his administration, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah declared his commitment to ensuring access to clean drinking water throughout the province. Additionally, he proudly stated that Sindh led among all provinces in providing free healthcare, citing examples such as the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre and the Gambat Institute of Medical Sciences.

Murad underscored the significance of these healthcare facilities, noting that people from across the country turn to Sindh for complimentary medical treatment.

Responding to inquiries about the overwhelming support in Sindh, CM Murad attributed it to the government’s tangible performance and results. He pointed to established institutions like the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre and the Gambat Institute of Medical Sciences as proof of their commitment to delivering on promises.

Expressing his gratitude for the honor of assuming the role of provincial head for the third consecutive term, newly re-elected Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah conveyed his determination to continue serving the people and addressing the pressing challenges facing the region.
