Omar Ayub for PM & Aslam Iqbal to contest for CM Punjab

Imran Khan’s nominations

Former Prime Minister Imran Khan has fielded key individuals for crucial positions of Prime Minister and Chief Minister Punjab in the upcoming session of the National Assembly.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Leader Barrister Gohar Khan disclosed that following extensive discussions between the imprisoned party chief and party leaders at Adiala Jail.

Imran Khan reportedly nominated Omer Ayub as the candidate for the prime ministerial position, and Mian Aslam Iqbal for the role of Punjab chief minister.

This strategic move comes on the heels of the PTI’s announcement of alliances with the Majlis Wahdat-i-Muslimeen in the Centre and Punjab, as well as a coalition government with the Jamaat-i-Islami in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

However, Liaquat Baloch of the Jamaat-i-Islami later clarified his party’s disinterest in collaborating with the PTI in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Barrister Gohar, in a media briefing outside Adiala Jail, highlighted Imran’s nominations and emphasized that PTI would not engage in power-sharing with the PML-N, PPP, and MQM-P.

Gohar asserted, “Imran Khan has clearly said that the politics of PTI is not for power-sharing but for the public.”

He emphasized the party’s commitment to protecting public rights and upholding the supremacy of the mandate and democracy.

In addition to Omer Ayub and Mian Aslam Iqbal, Salaar Kakar and Aqibullah Khan were nominated for the positions of chief ministers in Balochistan and Punjab, respectively. Gohar mentioned that the PTI would announce its nominations for the National Assembly speaker and deputy speaker in the coming days.

Barrister Gohar also disclosed plans for a peaceful countrywide protest on February 17 to protest the alleged marginalization of the PTI, claiming a mandate was being “snatched” despite winning decisively.

He invited other political parties, including the Grand Democratic Alliance, Jamaat-i-Islami, JUI-F, Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan, and Awami National Party, to join the PTI in its protest.

Meanwhile, Asad Qaiser, former National Assembly speaker, shared that Imran Khan had assigned him the task of engaging with political parties protesting the election results. Qaiser mentioned plans to form a strategy with parties such as JUI-F, ANP, and Qaumi Wattan Party, calling the February 8 elections the “worst in the history of Pakistan.”
