Barrister Gohar says PTI to form govt in center, Punjab & KP

ECP asked to release all pending results immediately

Leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Barrister Gohar Khan asserted on Saturday that their party had secured a majority in the general elections and was poised to form the government in center, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Addressing a news conference, he called upon the Election Commission of Pakistan to expedite the release of pending results in around a dozen constituencies.

As of Saturday afternoon, official results from the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) indicated that independent candidates, largely aligned with PTI, had triumphed in 100 seats.

However, Barrister Gohar Khan boldly claimed that his party had actually clinched victory in 170 parliamentary seats, emphasizing that 94 of these seats were acknowledged by the election commission.

Gohar Khan contended that their apparent defeat on 22 seats, including three in Islamabad, four in Sindh, and the remaining in Punjab, was unjust. Additionally, he asserted PTI’s success in securing 39 out of 45 National Assembly seats in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, where the party had previously governed.

Notably, elections were conducted for 265 seats in the National Assembly, with a simple majority requiring 133 seats. Both main contenders, PTI and Sharif’s party, had independently declared victory, heightening concerns about potential political discord in a country already grappling with numerous crises.

Criticism was directed at Nawaz Sharif for urging other political parties on Friday to form a coalition government.

Gohar Khan condemned this as a “premature statement,” asserting that only PTI held the majority in parliament and would consequently form the new central government. Urging the Election Commission to release the remaining results before midnight, he warned of demonstrations in constituencies with pending results if the deadline was not met.
