Chris Patten resigns after 21 years

Chris Patten’s resignation from the position of Oxford University’s Chancellor after 21 years has triggered a debate that who will run the oldest English-speaking university of the World in London.

The prestigious role, typically held by politicians, is currently being contested online contrary to the traditional in-person process requiring graduates to attend in full academic attire.

Imran Khan studied Economics and Politics at Keble College, Oxford in 1972 and media reports indicated that his name was also under consideration among the nominees for the position.

Other notable candidates include former UK Prime Ministers Theresa May, Boris Johnson, and Sir Tony Blair.

Theresa May, associated with the Conservative Party’s moderate faction, is often mentioned as a likely choice, drawing comparisons to the long-serving Chancellor Harold Macmillan.

However, Imran Khan, a former cricket star faced a lot of legal troubles and inclusion his name among the candidates is not verified by Oxford University so far.

He has recently been sentenced to 24 years in prison ahead of Pakistan’s 2024 General Elections. Imran Khan previously served as Chancellor of Bradford University from 2005 to 2014, stepping into politics in 1996 by launching the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (the Pakistani Justice Movement) after retiring from cricket in 1992.
