Behind 2 blasts, Balochistan Govt sees conspiracy to sabotage elections

Many died in 2 bomb blasts in Balochistan

Caretaker Balochistan Chief Minister Ali Mardan Khan Domki termed two separate bombings a conspiracy to sabotage the peaceful election process in Balochistan.

Two separate blasts occurred in different districts of Balochistan, resulting in a tragic toll of at least 24 lives lost and 50 individuals wounded. The devastating events took place on the eve of general elections.

The CM has directed law enforcement agencies to apprehend those responsible.

The incidents have prompted a three-day mourning period declared by Chief Minister Balochistan, said caretaker Information Minister Jan Achakzai addressing the media in a press conference.

The initial explosion targeted an independent candidate’s office in Khanozai, Pishin district, claiming the lives of 12 people and injuring over 25 others.

The injured were rushed to Tehsil Hospital Khanozai, with the majority reported to be in critical condition. Emergency measures have been implemented across Quetta’s hospitals, with additional staff deployed to handle the influx of casualties.

The candidate, Asfandyar Kakar, who is contesting elections from NA-265 constituency and Balochistan Assembly constituencies PB-47 and PB-48, was not present during the blast.

Kakar reported that the explosion occurred outside his election office, resulting in the martyrdom of eight workers and injuries to more than 18 others.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has taken notice and called for a report on the incident.

The second explosion occurred outside the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) office in Killa Saifullah district, claiming an additional 12 lives and leaving 25 individuals injured.

Fortunately, JUI-F leader Maulana Abdul Wassay, contesting elections from PB-3, escaped unharmed. The blast triggered vehicle fires, and the injured are being evacuated by helicopters from Quetta to receive urgent medical attention.

Preliminary information suggested that explosive material was planted in a motorcycle in both incidents, according to Balochistan’s caretaker Information Minister Jan Achakzai.

He assured the public that thorough investigations are underway, and the government is committed to ensuring peaceful elections. Security has been intensified in both districts, with the local administration having the authority to call in the army if necessary.
