Third resolution in Senate for election-delay

One has already passed by Upper House

A third resolution seeking election delay was submitted to Senate in the run-up to the impending general elections, scheduled for February 8.

The resolution sought the postponement on the pretext of security concerns and challenging weather conditions.

Independent Senator Hilal-ur-Rehman, representing the former Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata), presented the resolution to the Senate Secretariat.

He emphasized the potential difficulties citizens might face due to extreme cold weather and snowfall in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

A two-day ago, an independent Senator Hidayatullah submitted a resolution to Senate citing a surge in attacks targeting candidates.

The resolution highlighted an increase in terrorist and armed attacks in Waziristan, Bajaur, Swabi, and Turbat, resulting in the injury of an elderly politician and the death of a candidate.

The Senate had already passed a resolution of similar nature moved by independent Senator Dilawar Khan in the Upper House.

The fresh resolution moved by Senator Rehman pointed out that candidates in the region were grappling with numerous challenges in conducting effective election campaigns, including concerns about terrorist attacks amid heightened security issues in KP.

The resolution highlighted a growing sense of deprivation among voters and candidates in KP, deeming the initially scheduled election date infeasible for the province.
