Sayed Zulfikar Abbas Bukhari, the Central leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf , on Sunday alleged the countrywide internet shut down which, according to him, was meant to halt the fundraiser of the party.

The social media networking sites particularly X, Facebook, Youtube  and Instagram faced disruption across Pakistan ahead of the PTI’s telethon, the internet monitor Netblocks reported earlier in the evening.

The PTI appealed to the citizens of Pakistan earlier in the day for attending the “party’s virtual fundraising telethon and Manifesto Launch Tonight, Sunday, 7th Jan 2024 9 PM”.

The blockade also drew condemnation of other PTI leaders including Taimur Saleem Khan Jhagra who regretted “another internet shutdown for another PTI online event”.

The party also called out the authorities for the “absolutely shameful” act and demanded that the IT minister resign “for this continuing damage to Pakistanis”.

Talking to Dawn News, the Pakistan Telecommunication spokesperson denied any disruption of the internet.

Netizens complained about their inability to connect to social media sites including X — formerly known as Twitter — Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and streaming giant YouTube.
