In a swift response to reports of a blast near the Israeli embassy in New Delhi on Tuesday, Indian police have launched an investigation into the incident, which fortunately resulted in no casualties.
The blast took place in the late afternoon, prompting officers to cordon off the embassy premises as they meticulously combed through the surrounding areas.
Israel’s foreign ministry confirmed the incident, describing it as “an explosion” in close proximity to the embassy.
Israeli Embassy spokesperson Guy Nir provided details to the media, stating, “We can confirm that around 5:20 there was a blast at close proximity to the embassy.”
Ohad Nakash Kaynar, Israel’s deputy head of mission in New Delhi, assured the safety of all embassy personnel, emphasizing, “All our workers are safe, all our diplomats are safe. Our security teams are working in full cooperation with the local Delhi security, and they will investigate the matter further.”
The incident took place in a tightly controlled neighborhood, home to government buildings and diplomatic missions.
According to the Times of India, the Delhi Police received a call of blast near the embassy on Tuesday afternoon.
The Embassy is located in Chanakyauri area and according to the reports, the police had received a letter addressed to the Israeli ambassador near the premises of the mission.
They also found a flag wrapped with the letter, said the NDTV of India.
