A prominent lawyer and former PPP leader, Sardar Latif Khosa, declared his allegiance to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) during a press conference held in Lahore on Sunday.
The PTI also shared the development on its account on X formerly Twitter confirming his formal inclusion into the party.
Latif Khosa, a seasoned legal professional who has previously represented PTI chief Imran Khan in various legal matters, was earlier part of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).
Draping a PTI flag over his shoulders, Khosa expressed his optimism about steering the country toward a “beautiful” future through his association with PTI.
In a somewhat lighthearted remark, he acknowledged the unusual nature of holding a press conference to join a party, contrasting it with the common practice of such events being held for departures, alluding to recent party defections following the May 9 violence.
Asserting his commitment to serving his motherland, Khosa emphasized the importance of speaking the truth without fear, attributing life’s aspects such as death, honor, respect, and sustenance to divine providence.
He called for a responsible approach from institutions, including the army, judiciary, and bureaucracy, urging them to operate within the confines of the Constitution and emphasizing the people’s role as their true owners, as they fund these institutions through their taxes.
Discussing electoral matters, Khosa commended Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa for dispelling uncertainties surrounding the February 8 polls.
Simultaneously, he expressed a preference for judicial oversight in the appointment of returning officers (ROs) and district returning officers (DROs) to ensure impartiality.
The lawyer vehemently criticized the recent arrest of PTI’s Sher Afzal Marwat outside the Lahore High Court, condemning the act as a violation of a place symbolizing peace and justice.
Khosa raised concerns about the deputy commissioner’s alleged familial ties to the “caretaker” Punjab chief minister and questioned the justification for Marwat’s detention, suggesting that officials with potential biases could compromise the electoral process.
In September, Khosa faced disciplinary action from the PPP, which suspended his party membership and ousted him from its central executive committee (CEC).
The party accused him of representing Imran Khan without prior approval, leading to a show-cause notice that went unanswered.
