Pakistan U-19 cricket beats rival India in Asia Cup

Credit for victory goes to batter Azan Awais

Pakistan’s U-19 cricket team registered a resounding eight-wicket triumph over arch-rivals India in the ongoing Asia Cup.

The credit goes to Azan Awais who made an undefeated century with a stunning display of skill and determination.

The match took place on Sunday at the ICC Cricket Academy Ground in Dubai and Pakistan, having won the toss, elected to field first.

Beset by 259-9 target, Pakistan showcased their batting prowess by successfully chasing down the total with 18 balls to spare.

According to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the U-19 team demonstrated exceptional ease in achieving the target.

The pivotal moment in the chase was a remarkable 110-run partnership between Shahzaib Khan and Azan Awais. This partnership, dominating the Indian bowling attack after the early loss of the first wicket, was eventually disrupted in the 28th over when Shahzaib fell victim to Murugan Abhishek’s bowling, having already secured a half-century.

Replacing Shahzaib at the crease, Captain Saad Baig joined forces with Azan Awais, contributing a quality half-century. The duo proceeded to build an unbroken partnership of 125 runs, steering the team to victory.

Azan Awais emerged as the standout performer of the match, earning the well-deserved title of Player of the Match for his exceptional century that maintained Pakistan U-19’s dominance throughout the chase.

Looking ahead, the U-19 squad is set to face Afghanistan on Tuesday at the same venue, aiming to continue their winning streak.

In a previous encounter on Friday, pacer Mohammad Zeeshan delivered a stellar performance, playing a pivotal role in Pakistan’s U-19 Asia Cup campaign opener with a commanding seven-wicket victory over Nepal at the identical venue.
