Trailer with Afghan families overturned in Attock

A 22-wheeler trailer with Afghan families overturned on Sunday near the Grand Trunk Road in Punjab’s Attock claiming two people lives and wounded 25 of them.

According to the official, a tyre of the trailer which was en route to Afghanistan got burst leading to overturning of the vehicle.

A press release from Hazro Town police in Attock has identified the deceased as 55-year-old Salman Khan and 60-year-old Bibi Gul. The bodies and injured individuals were swiftly transported to Tehsil Headquarter Hospital Hazro. Additionally, four critically injured individuals have been transferred to Rawalpindi for further medical treatment.

The families of Afghan refugees are returning to their homes amid the ultimatum given by the caretaker government for all the illegal immigrants who have been told to leave the country before October 31.

According to the government officials, more than 60,000 Afghans had left the country through the border in recent weeks.

The government has already announced strict actions for illegal immigrants who would not leave the country before the deadline.

Currently, there are three categories of Afghan residents including those who have been living in the country since 1970s. Other categories included who were in Pakistan since 2016 while another are from those who came in Pakistan after American forces withdrawal from Afghanistan.
