Mild tremors felt in various areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa earlier in the morning, causing panic among residents who rushed out of their homes.
The earthquake, measuring 5.4 magnitude on the Richter Scale, was felt in Bajaur, Lower Dir, and Kurram districts. Fortunately, there have been no reports of casualties or property damage at this time.
The quake’s epicenter was identified in the Hindukush range region, situated at a depth of 186 kilometers. It follows a previous tremor on Saturday night, measuring 5.8 in magnitude, which was felt in cities like Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Peshawar.
The earlier earthquake’s epicenter was located near Tajikistan and Afghanistan’s border, at a depth of 196 kilometers.
Reports indicate that residents hurriedly evacuated their homes in panic due to the tremors. However, authorities have not reported any significant losses or damages as of now.
Additional regions in Pakistan, including Bannu, DI Khan, Swat, Diamer, Chilas, Nowshera, Mansehra, Lower Dir, Dir Bala, Mianwali, and Malakand, also felt the impact of the recent seismic activity.
Moreover, India’s capital, Delhi, and its neighboring areas experienced strong tremors as well. Several areas in northern India, including parts of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and Punjab, felt the quake’s effects, the local media reported.
Geologists attribute Pakistan’s susceptibility to earthquakes to its location on the boundary between the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates.
The Indian plate’s northward movement into the Eurasian plate makes large parts of South Asia seismically active, resulting in occasional natural disasters like earthquakes.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and urging residents to remain vigilant during this period of heightened seismic activity.
