Finance Minister Ishaq Dar on Monday announced reduction in petrol and diesel prices by Rs12 and diesel Rs30, respectively.
In a press conference, he said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif tried to pass on maximum relief to the public since decline in petroleum prices.
“Hence, after 12pm tonight, for the next 15 days, petrol prices are being reduced by Rs12 and the new price of petrol will now be Rs270,” Dar said.
The minister said diesel will now cost Rs258 after a deduction of Rs30. Kerosene oil will now cost Rs164.07 after an Rs12 decrease and the price of light diesel oil will be reduced by Rs12 to Rs152.69 per litre.
The Finance division also released a notification stating that the government had decided to reduce the existing prices of the petroleum products in order to pass on the benefits of decreasing prices trend of petroleum products in international market and provide maximum relief to the masses.
However, the people take a sigh of relief after the announcement as the prices of petroleum products has skyrocketed in the last couple of months leaving significant impact on the lives of a common man.
Anjum Shahzad, a buyer at a PSO Petrol Pump at G-7, hailed the government’s decision but at the same time demanded a further decrease in the prices while pointing out a whooping rise in inflation which impacted every household in the country.
He said petrol was a commodity which had direct link with inflation which left dreadful impact on the masses.
Another person in sector F-8 queuing for petrol at a pump said the prices were still high and if the government wanted to pass on relief to the masses seriously, it should be brought to Rs 250 per liter.
