On Tuesday (31 August) the foreign minister, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, announced the commencement of Pakistan’s consulate general in Munich, Germany.
Following the press conference with Foreign Minister, Heiko Maas, our minister tweeted “Bilaterally, we deeply value our longstanding relations with Germany, now in our 70th year of friendship. We will soon inaugurate the Consulate General of Pakistan in Munich & are working to establish Iqbal-Goethe Center in Heidelberg.”
This year 2021, marks seventy years of diplomatic ties between Pakistan and Germany. To celebrate this anniversary various notable events have been organized by both countries to properly exhibit their amicability.
In a joint press conference on Tuesday with Qureshi’s counterpart from Germany, the Foreign Minister emphasized “This is a pivotal moment in Afghanistan’s history. The international community must remain engaged.”
The conference followed a discussion about bilateral, regional, and Afghanistan-related issues. Upon the topic of the current situation in Afghanistan, Qureshi stated that Germany must “use its influence to convince the international community for continuous engagement.” He reiterated that this condition of the Afghani people could not be ignored and thus support from the world was necessary.
The German foreign minister, Heiko Maas, expressed on the matter of Afghanistan that it would be seen how the Taliban Government completes its promises in the coming days. he said, “It remains to be seen if the [Afghan] government will be an inclusive one as we had demanded.”
Maas had also been grateful to the Pakistani Government for the help and the information updates regarding Afghanistan. They also appreciated Pakistan’s support in the evacuations of German officials and nationals and their safe transfer from the country.
Furthermore, the ministers were also questioned about India’s involvement in the training of the militant group in the Islamic State in Khorasan Province (ISKP). To this Shah Mahmood Qureshi had said that Pakistan had continuously warned the world “beware of the spoilers of peace”. On the other hand, Maas when asked about India’s funding on terror had given a broader reply about needing to formulate a collective strategy by the neighbors of Afghanistan.
