Positive Covid-19 cases continue to surface throughout the country, with 3,772 new cases and 80 deaths recorded on Monday (23 August). The virus has claimed the lives of over 25,000 people in the country.
Furthermore, 47,802,106 doses of Covid-19 vaccination have been distributed throughout the country.
According to data issued by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), the number of deaths has risen to 25,003 with:
- 11,557 deaths in Punjab.
- 6,612 in Sindh.
- 4,797 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
- 852 in Islamabad.
- 680 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
- 335 in Balochistan.
- 170 in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Dr. Qaiser Sajjad, Secretary-General of the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) said that almost 220 doctors have lost their lives due to Covid-19 with 77 recorded deaths in Sindh.
Additionally, he added that Dr. Mahnoor Farzand, who was eight months pregnant and unvaccinated, was the latest health professional to die because of the Covid-19 outbreak. He stated that since the development of the Delta version, a substantial number of doctors have perished.
The data of NCOC revealed the following:
- 25,505 people have been infected by the virus.
- 525 died in the past week.
- 486 ventilators were being used in the Country.
- 69% ventilators were occupied in Multan.
- 66% ventilators in Bahawalpur.
- 41% ventilators in Peshawar.
- 40% ventilators in Islamabad.
The data relating to Oxygen revealed the following information:
- 72% such beds are being utilized in Abbottabad.
- 65% in Swabi.
- Over 50p% each in Gujranwala and Peshawar.
Asad Umar, Federal Minister for Planning and Development, also tweeted on Twitter today (24 August) in which he mentioned that they have decided to lower the eligible age for Covid Vaccination. He said that the vaccination of 17 years old will start from the 1st of September.
In another tweet, he said that enforcement mechanisms, both administrative and tech-based are being developed to ensure a high compliance level.
