PM Imran Khan summons important meeting

Prime Minister Imran Khan called two important meetings today (5th August). He summoned the meetings to discuss issues on national security and Afghanistan Issues.

The meeting on National Security will take place at 3 pm whilst the latter will take place at 5 pm. Both sessions will be attended by Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Defence Minister Pervez Khattak, Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed, and top military personnel.

The meeting on National Security will discuss the existing problems in the Indian occupied Kashmir. PM Khan said it is critical to understand what national security is and that it is more than simply defense when he spoke at the Islamabad Security Dialogue in March of this year.

After the inauguration of the two-day security dialogue, the Prime Minister said that non-traditional challenges like climate change and food security, which pose a danger to Pakistan’s overall security, are also part of national security. Imran Khan said that the concept of national security needs to be more comprehensive as security is one of the most important issues.

The meeting on the Afghan issue will be held when National Security Adviser Moeed Yusuf and Inter-Services Intelligence Director General Lt. Gen Faiz Hameed will visit the United States to discuss Pak-US relations as well as the Afghan dilemma. The US should stay involved in the Afghan crisis until a political solution is found, according to the security adviser. The meeting will assess the state of peace in Afghanistan as well as Pakistan’s matching policy.

US and Afghanistan

According to Prime Minister Imran Khan, the US really messed it up in Afghanistan. There is no military solution to the issues of Afghanistan. The prime minister claimed that the Americans should have sought a diplomatic settlement with the Taliban while maintaining a large military presence in Afghanistan. However, now that most US and coalition forces have left the nation, the Taliban, who regard the country to be their win, are in no hurry to reconcile.

While responding to queries from journalists on July 28, Imran Khan stated that the only way to achieve peace is for the Afghan government and the Taliban to reach a political agreement, to build an inclusive government.

Taliban to attack officials

The Taliban vowed on Wednesday (4th August) that they will continue to attack government officials. Bismillah Mohammadi, the Afghan defense minister, had evaded their attack in Kabul the day before.

In a post on social media, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said that the strike is only the beginning of the retaliatory operations against the leaders of the Kabul administration.
