PTI decries rejection of multiple candidates including Imran Khan’s nomination papers

Nomination papers of other parties accepted

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Saturday decried rejection of the nomination papers of its multiple candidates including its founder Imran Khan for the general elections slated for February 8,2024.

The party raised concerns about the apparent bias in the acceptance of nomination papers, noting that almost 90% of PTI’s crucial leaders, including Imran Khan, faced rejections, while 100% of the nomination papers from other political parties were accepted.

In a statement posted on X, formerly Twitter, the PTI criticized the perceived partiality in the conduct of Returning Officers (ROs), police, caretakers, and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

The party accused these entities of facilitating Nawaz Sharif, its political rival, during the initial phase of the elections.

The PTI strongly condemned what it deemed as a shameful endangerment of the future of 250 million people solely to accommodate Nawaz Sharif.

Simultaneously, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan voiced severe condemnation of the evident harassment and violence directed at PTI candidates and their supporters.

Additionally, he decried the denial of entry into Returning Officers’ offices for his party members.

According to a statement issued by the PTI spokesperson, Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan remarked that the ongoing scrutiny of nomination papers for general seats marked the initial phase of the upcoming general elections.

He asserted that political machinery throughout the country was being ruthlessly employed against PTI candidates.

Expressing deep concern, the Chairman highlighted the open targeting of PTI candidates and their supporters for harassment and violence.

He pointed out that such tactics involved the unlawful use of coercive powers, representing the most egregious forms of interference in the electoral process.

According to Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, this situation was a glaring indication of the Election Commission’s failure to fulfill its constitutional duties.
