In a fierce exchange of gunfire, at least two terrorists were killed, and a brave policeman lost his life during a militant attack on a patrolling post in the Kundal area of Punjab’s Mianwali district.
The incident unfolded in the early hours of Sunday when a group of 10 to 12 militants assaulted a police check post.
According to Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Usman Anwar, the terrorists, suspected to have foreign links, targeted the police post from two sides. The ensuing gun battle intensified as law enforcement officers, supported by Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) teams, valiantly fought back.
Tragically, one dedicated policeman was martyred in the line of duty, while two terrorists met their fate.
The fallen terrorists were identified as Zubair Nawaz and Muhammad Khan, both operatives of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Zubair, wanted in Punjab for sectarian killings and extortion, was the brother of TTP Lakki Marwat district chief Ameer Arshad Nawaz.
The operation, executed meticulously in the hilly terrain as darkness fell, highlighted the persistent threat faced by Pakistan.
In recent months, the nation has been besieged by a wave of terror, especially in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where militants have relentlessly targeted security forces and civilians.
This incident follows a series of attacks, including two suicide bombings in Balochistan’s Mastung and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Hangu just days ago, leaving several dead and many injured.
